Dupa ce se prabusesc pe o planeta artificiala numita "Halo", un capitan naval cu supravietuitorii din echipa sa si cu un super-soldat pe nume John-117 "Master Chief", trebuie sa afle ce anume fac Covenantii, rasa extra-terestra cu care se afla in razboi, pe planeta-inel.
