Storyline
Sean Vetter and Demetrius Hicks are members of the DEA who are fighting an ongoing drug war on the California/Mexico border, they are most successful at it because of their edge of growing up on the street and being thugs converted to cops. The DEA busts one of the major players by the name of "Memo" Lucero and imprison him in the United States but then a major player named Diablo then takes over the business and now he is now the major player targeted by Vetter and his team. But when Vetter's wife is killed in a botched hit organized by Diablo, he seeks revenge against those responsible and in the process has to seek help from the imprisoned Lucero in order to catch Diablo. But in the process, Vetter and Hicks have to fight their way up the chain to get to Diablo but it's easier said than done when all Vetter can focus on is revenge...

This movie was so intense that even though my friends were trying to lure me away from the screen, I just couldn't. I was locked on to the movie screen, watching everything that went on. Vin Diesel did a terrific job as the main role in this movie. He showed intensity, emotion, fear, jealousy, and heart through-out the whole picture, it was just inspiration.

The movie starts out with a special police force designed to be cops that looked like they hated cops at the same time, to break into a party of drug dealers and stop the corporation. Their mission was successful while entertaining. After, Sean Vetter (Vin Diesel) and his wife Stacy (Jacqueline Obradors) throw a celebration party at their beach house. The party ends, and we see them asleep in their beds. We hear movement outside of the sliding glass door by the bedroom, Sean wakes up, opening his eyes once the door is silently open. "GET DOWN!" yells Sean to his wife as the two men at the door pull out their guns and start to fire. Sean grabs his pistol and tries to shoot them both down, as he is shot in the ribs. He runs outside after them, and shoots one of them down before he can escape. Sean walks over to him, yelling at him about coming into his house, as he shoots him once again while he is already down on the ground. He asks who he is, demanding an answer. The only thing the man says is, "You will never stop Diablo." and then dies. Sean runs back into his bedroom telling his wife to call 911. She is still lying on the ground. He picks her up and puts her on the bed. He then asks if she's ok, and she keeps repeating over and over, "I'm ok....I'm ok" Sean dials 911 on his cell phone and when a woman answers, he doesn't even speak, because he is watching his wife die in his arms. The woman on the phone keeps saying, "I can't hear you sir, please speak up." but Sean doesn't, then the screen turns completely white.

This is only the beginning of this almost 2 hour picture. Through-out the rest, Sean is determined to find this so called Diablo and finish him off. I gave this movie a 10, and I rarely do that, but it deserves that rating. I enjoyed sitting and watching it, as it moved from scene to scene. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

A very random cast come together to make a Hindi version of Italian Job and end up spoiling it to no end. The script tries to take twists from the original movie for the Indian people who have actually watched "Italian Job" to go all 'oooooh' in the theater, but what they didn't know is the audience isn't that stupid to believe all that was shown.

Abhishek Bacchan and Neil Nitin Mukesh do a good job, but Sonam Kapoor CANNOT act to save her life, neither is she good looking, what she tries really hard in the movie to be. Bipasha Basu does what she does best.

Some of the stuff shown is so unreal that by half way through, you are just sitting in the theater to at least squeeze in little worth of your money. I mean Mukesh's character 'Spider' has this huge mansion with all high tech stuff, but one bloody vehicle barges in and destroys everything right to his bedroom, really people?

The only saving grace to the movie was the little good action it had, especially the train heist, other than the movie was just in bad taste after what Abbas-Mustan had provided in 'RACE'

As always appear customary gendarmes partners, Marechals(Michael Modo,Maurice Risch,Jean Pierre Rambal,Guy Grosso), chief adjutant Jerome(Michael Galabru), but no the sympathetic Jean Lefevre.When see an outer space saucer the Gendarmerie Nationale is revolutionized, Ludovic Cruchot(Louis De Funes) goes into in action, and he's secretly moving in disguise , dressing as a nun. The only way to discover the Extra-Terrestres from real human is which they feel deep thirst and take compulsively oil drinks; furthermore they sound like empty metallic cans when they punch them. Then, the highlights happen when the aliens impersonate as gendarmes and the events go wrong.

This is an amusing story, and pretty entertaining farce with the master comic Luis De Funes. Lively situations full of slapstick, slapdash and too much fun. The pic contains a light criticism to French police called Nationale Gendarmerie.Louis De Funes undertakes several adventures, overacting, as always, as he puts intense mocking faces, grimaces, tongue twister, and lots of mimic gesticulation. Claude Gensac, as habitual Ludovic Cruchot's spouse, she collaborated five films as wife, however this time doesn't appear, being substituted by Maria Mauban. Fine local photography with luminous sun under St. Tropez's blue sky. Lively and catching musical score by Raymond Lefevre includes usual leitmotif with musical background on habitual ending parade where the gendarmes are replaced by false aliens. However packs a cheesy and ridiculous special effects referred on the flying saucer. The movie is ingeniously written and directed by ordinary director series, Jean Girault. If you like Funes' nutty acting, you'll like this one.

Misery and Stand By Me were the best adaptations up until this one, now you can add Shawshank to that list.

This is simply one of the best films ever made and I know I am not the first to say that and I certainly won't be the last. The standing on the IMDb is a true barometer of that. #3 as of this date and I'm sure it could be number 1. So I'll just skip all the normal praise of the film because we all know how great it is. But let me perhaps add that what I find so fascinating about Shawshank is that Stephen King wrote it.

King is one of the best writers in the world. Books like IT and the Castle Rock series are some of the greatest stories ever told. But his best adaptations are always done by the best directors. The Shining was brilliantly interpreted by Kubrick and of course the aforementioned Misery and Stand By Me are both by Rob Reiner. Now Frank Darabont comes onto the scene and makes arguably the best King film ever. He seems to understand what King wants to say and he conveys that beautifully.

What makes this film one of the best ever made is the message it conveys. It is one of eternal hope. Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, has been sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. But he never loses hope. He never gives up his quest to become a free man again. His years of tenacity, patience and wits keep him not only sane, but it gives his mind and a spirit a will to live. This film has a different feel to it. There has never been anything like it before and I don't know if there will again.

I'm not going to say any more about this film, it has already been said, but just suffice to say that I am glad that Forrest Gump won best picture in 94. I would have been equally glad if Pulp Fiction or Shawshank would have won. It is that good of a movie and one that will be appreciated for years to come.

Remember those films where one Hero, had the power & guts to bash up a dozen of baddies. Remember those films where the Hero was able to pull off any god damn thing to get justice? I am talking about the Cinema of the 1970's & 1980's. The time When Action Films ruled, when Escapisim ruled Hindi Cinema.

'Singham' is old wine, in a new bottle. Directed by popular filmmaker Rohit Shetty, this action-flick/remake offers nothing new, in terms of story. But what it packs in efficiently, are the Performances by it's Screen-Hero Ajay Devgn & it's Screen-Villain Prakash Raj, who hold your attention, with their impeccable performances.

'Singham' is the same old-story of how the GOOD tries his best to defeat the Evil. As said, in terms of story, there is no novelty, whatsoever! But, the Screenplay offers some really interesting moments, especially in the second hour, which is quite gripping. Plus, the confrontation scenes between the Good and the Evil, are arresting & effective. And even the Dialogue are clap-worthy and act as a major trump card for the enterprise.

But, I would like to point out, that, the romantic-track, between the Hero & Heronie, is not up-to the mark and fails to leave an impact. The Drama works, the Romance doesn't.

Rohit Shetty's Direction relies mainly on Stunts, and I must day, that, the Stunts/Action-Sequences, are well-done. Cinematography by Dudley is fine. Editing is fair. Music by Ajay-Atul, is decent.

Performance-Wise: National-Award-Wininng Actors Ajay Devgn & Prakash Raj, play their parts impeccably. Devgn plays the Hero, superbly & looks the part to the T. Raj, on the other-hand, is nearly mesmerizing as the Villain. Plus, the chemistry between the two, is something to watch. Kajal Aggarwal is fairly nice. Ashok Saraf is first-rate. Sonali Kulkarni scores. Murli Sharma leaves a mark. Sachin Khedekar, Govind Namdeo & Sudhanshu Pandey lend able support.

On the whole, 'Singham' is an entertainer, that doesn't disappoint, thanks to it's arresting second hour, clap-worthy scenes & above all, the performances by Devgn & Raj.

When you've watched plenty of movies based on some drug-addict life story you can't help compare them... I mean, the story is always the same: a guy begins having drugs for fun, or because he's boring, or just because he's young and wants to try new experiences, then he gets hooked, starts to rob or to prostitute himself, and eventually ends up in prison. That's what we see in Christiane F., El Pico, Trainspotting, Drugstore Cowboy... There may be differences in the form, and in the characters, but the content is always the same.

The dinstictive feature of Basketball Diaries is that the main character actually exists: Jim Carroll, a writer-singer-performer born in NYC in the 50's. And this is supposed to be his autobiography (or the cinema adaptation of some diaries he wrote when he was a teenager, heroin-addicted). Because of that, Basketball D. is more poetic than the rest of the movies I named before, the voice over of DiCaprio's character is present all along the film, telling us about his thoughts (rather nihilistic's) , with a style near to Burroughs or Jack Kerouac, urban poetry, tough and without ornament. Maybe that's the strong point of Basketball Diaries, because movies such as Christiane F. or El Pico recreates much better what it means to be a drug-addict, they're much more explicit, more dirty, much harder...

DiCaprio's performance deserves a new paragraph, 'cause it's simply astonishing. His best performance EVER, plenty of different shades. As he did in Gilbert Grape or This Boy's Life, he shows us how versatile he can be. If only he'd choose better the films he works in.

When he saves the life of PR expert Ray Embrey from an oncoming train, the executive is thankful and believes he can restore Hancock's image as a true superhero. He brings the anti-hero home for dinner and introduces him to his son Aaron, a big fan, and to his wife, Mary. But for some mysterious reason Mary doesn't want Hancock anywhere near her or her family.

I NEVER write on these opinion boards but I might start with this one. I felt as though I needed to stick up for the movie after reading all the horrible reviews. I went to see it on the 4th, mainly because the trailers looked entertaining and because I enjoy Will Smith. This movie is not at all what I expected. There is a surprising turn of events that I did not see coming. Will Smith, in his usual style, is quick, funny, witty, and charming and I thought the timing between he and Jason Bateman was perfect. If you are expecting to see a movie along the lines of Hulk, Iron Man, Batman, etc, don't go because you won't enjoy it. If you are going because you like the cast and are ready to be entertained for 1 hour and 20 minutes out of your life, then it is definitely worth the price of admission.

Josh thinks he knows where it is. So with two other employees who also lost their jobs and an evicted tenant, they set out to get into Shaw's penthouse to get the money. But they realise they need the assistance of someone who knows what they are doing...

How can a movie be entertaining, emotional, fun and well paced without hundreds of millions budget and all big blockbuster stars cast? This is how. You use a good director, a well written clever script, some very good but underrated actors and put it all together as in this movie. I know that comparison with Ocean's 11 is inevitable for most of the viewers but this movie is not so pretentious. This is about how ordinary people would do it. Not hilarious but intelligent and optimistic. And simple. Has a message, too: Never give up, no matter how hopeless it may seem. And it's really fun and well done. As usual, don't expect too much and you'll get more than you'd expect :) Recommended even to the spoiled viewers.

I Saw the Devil

Storyline
Kyung-chul (Choi Min-sik) is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state. Her fiance Soo-hyun (Lee Byung-hun), a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.

I SAW THE DEVIL is a brutal, bloody, shocking and very effective crime drama. A psychopath has killed many young girls and when one of them turns out to be the pregnant fiancé of a government agent - the agent takes matter into his own hands to track down the killer and make him pay. Now in many American movies, the hero would spend the whole movie tracking the guy down then finally have him cornered on the roof of a skyscraper or the edge of waterfall, etc and then he'd say a corny quip and blow the guy away. But in this amazing Korean film, the agent finds the killer early on and injures him badly and then says "this is just the beginning" - planting in this killer's mind the fear that he will come back for him - he doesn't know how or when. The psychological aspect of the hunter and the hunted is very powerful and the performances are incredible. One of the best actors of the planet (Min-sik Choi) who was so brilliant as the lead in OLD BOY, is once again, fantastic as the twisted killer. This movie might not be for everyone - the camera never flinches from any brutality and violence. But the under the surface sorrow and pain of the agent carries the emotional wallop that punches the viewer at the very end.

One for the Money reviewed 9 out of 10 bags of popcorn.

Having read all eighteen of the Stephanie Plum books, a few of them more than once, it is safe to say that I am a big fan of the series, even though SP16 was a little disappointing and SP17 was a huge letdown. In any case, I went to the multiplex with a clear vision in my mind of how the characters should look, act and interact. This is the first movie that I've actually gone to a theater to see in at least two years. Sadly, the director seems to belong to what I call the 'mumble school of filmmaking', and the dialogue was very hard to follow at times. And no, that's not just my aged ears reacting because the forty-three-year-old I saw it with had a hard time hearing it as well. Best of all, we are in Orlando at the moment, with some dead time on our hands, and went to an early bird special for $5 per head. These days that's a bargain.

The movie worked. The chemistry between Plum and Morelli was obvious on screen. Morelli had a nice lithe but tightly muscular body with a well-proportioned butt. Too bad about those disgusting tattoos, but that too, was probably in character. Lula the street 'ho' was perfectly cast, as were Stephanie's cousin Vinnie and the girl in the bail bond office who Janet Evanovich describes as carrying most of her weight in her chest. Stephanie's parents were well done, and Debbie Reynolds was a pleasant surprise as Grandma Mazur. I'd always pictured Grandma as sort of wizened and shriveled (sort of like the Nanny's grandmother), and Reynolds at a couple of months shy of eighty didn't quite fit my preconceived image. That being said Reynolds has a flair for comedy, and it worked. The only disappointment was the casting of Ranger, hence the one bag deduction. Ranger was believable, but a little too personable, and maybe even a tad too verbose. Ranger in the books didn't talk a lot, and could put a whole sentence into one word when he looked at Stephanie and said, "Babe." The characters sounded like New Jersey residents and the row houses they lived in looked authentic.

Oh, and the 1953 Buick that Stephanie frequently borrows from the family is now a huge Buick from the 70s or 80s, but that worked quite nicely.

My partner and I are both looking forward to the next Stephanie Plum movie, assuming this one does well enough at the box office to justify the production.

"Machine Gun Preacher" is an inspirational melodrama directed by Marc Forster and starring Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon. This film is based on the true story of Sam Childers a former gang biker who finds god, becomes a pastor and has dedicated his life and all his resources ever since to rescuing and protecting orphans in Sudan, Africa. Childers founded Angles of East Africa an orphanage located in South Sudan.

Marc Forster has under his belt an impressive resume with films like Quantum of Solace, The Kite Runner, Finding Neverland and Monster's Ball.

Reviewing this film has been very complicated because of its subject matter. The movie has a strong religious subject, addresses the civil conflict and severity of the crisis in Sudan, ideals, hypocrisy and religious fanaticism. This film will divide Christian audiences because of the redemptive arc of the tale.

This is one of those movies that will provoke both sympathy and aversion. Sam Childers (Butler) is not an ordinary preacher; he carries a machine gun and kills LRA rebels in self-defense looking at it as helping God's children. Sam had a troubled life, was a gang member, drug dealer, junkie, married a stripper, but his life dramatically changes around when he finds god or god finds him, as he states in the movie. He claims to be a soldier fighting for freedom and becomes a member of the SPLA (Sudan People's Liberation Army).

Mark Foster does a good job bringing such a complex and controversial story to the big screen utilizing his well-known visual skills. This movie has a lot of graphic and violent scenes, showing the horror caused by a civil war, torture, savage murders, and how entire villages are destroyed.

Storyline
Turkish and his close friend/accomplice Tommy get pulled into the world of match fixing by the notorious Brick Top. Things get complicated when the boxer they had lined up gets the shit kicked out of him by Pitt, a 'pikey' ( slang for an Irish Gypsy)- who comes into the equation after Turkish, an unlicensed boxing promoter wants to buy a caravan off the Irish Gypsies. They then try to convince Pitt not only to fight for them, but to lose for them too. Whilst all this is going on, a huge diamond heist takes place, and a fistful of motley characters enter the story, including 'Cousin Avi', 'Boris The Blade', 'Franky Four Fingers' and 'Bullet Tooth Tony'. Things go from bad to worse as it all becomes about the money, the guns, and the damned dog!

This movie is perfect in all its categories: credits, sound track, production, casting, writing, photography, editing, acting, and direction. 10/10.

I was amazed with the freedom of the use of the camera. This movie will change the way movies are made. Slow-mo, stills, black and white, and color were all used to brilliant effect.

I must pick out specific actors who were just over the top - meaning 10+!

Jason Statham as "Turkish" is simply superb - a star of very high caliber. (You should see him in anything he made, and read my comment about John Carpenter's movie: "Ghosts of Mars.")

Alan Ford as "Brick Top" is terrifying - his forced speaking style made me think that he was chewing on the flesh of his previous victim.

Vinnie Jones as "Bullet Tooth Tony" is total tough head to foot tough - a walking brick wall - a marine for all seasons - none tougher.

Brad Pitt as "Mickey O'Neil" is utterly 110% convincing. I never liked Mr. Pitt's work before this - but this one totally sold me - he is as solid an actor as ever came out of Hollywood... and better!

Finally, Guy Ritchie should be recognized as a Michelangelo of film.

Retired CIA agent Paul Shepherdson (Gere) is teamed with FBI agent Ben Geary (Topher Grace) to hunt down Cassius a deadly assassin, long thought dead, who seems to have surfaced, and is believed to have just killed a United States Senator.

Okay, let's get this out of the way. The name Topher drove me to a cook book to see what it was. Silly me.

This is a fairly good made-for-TV movie. Not a thriller, not an action hero movie, and not something CGI could be bothered with. There is a car chase, but not as good as we've seen in other real thrillers. This is a rather good, tame spy mystery. Who is Cassius and if truly alive, why is he making his presence known now?

One of the twists is given to us early on and you ask yourself why? But, there it is right in front of you. Okay, now you know, but Agent Geary doesn't know. So you watch him go thru clues to discover something you already know. And, you ask yourself when agent Geary does finally know, then what? What else is there? Well, you are in for a few surprises as was I. And, at the end of this you will believe that, yes indeed, history has, does and will actually repeat itself. If you can't make that connection, see me after class.

All the acting was good as you would expect. No one stood out except Amber (Katic) who did a very good job looking more than scared at the cocked gun in her face hoping that it wouldn't go off. Hey, I even had to avert my eyes as that was tense. The music was okay. There were some attempts at humor, but they weren't memorable enough to report. It will be the twists at the end that will make you say, "this was pretty good. I had no idea." None of us did.

(Any downsides? You always have them) Hey, this is like a made-for-TV movie , but a pretty good one. But, now that you ask: I wish this could have gone on longer and not have had that quickie conversation near the end about what everything was really about. It went by too fast. I had to rewind to get it all. See?

We need to see more of Richard Gere in dramas, not comedy so much. He is always good to watch. Martin Sheen doesn't do many movies but when we do see him with these shortened roles, he is gold. (6/10)

Violence: Yes. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Intense Scene: Yes. Gun in the face of a woman. Language: Yes.

OK, Matt Goss puts up a good show of being a young exec on the way down. And when he's tempted into easy money in a bar, we can believe it. But luck would have it that a couple of kids steal a car containing the deal money. Me, I'd be out of there, but these dumb brats somehow (didn't get how) find themselves speaking to Matt on the phone and agree to meet him, later to try and get the money back on the car and electronics they've bought. Are they mad? Why would they do that? I was OK with the first three-quarters of the story, then it goes into Alice in Wonderland territory - yet Matt maintains his serious expression to the end. Masterful! In conclusion: an unconvincing story makes a dreadful movie.
